FAS
Membership Benefits
Each member of FAS benefits from the following
features and activities:
Astronomical Observations (both public and private) - One
or more observing sessions are scheduled each month.
Programs - Monthly program meetings are held providing lectures,
planetarium shows, video programs, workshops, and clinics.
Publications - FAS publishes a monthly newsletter containing
information of interest to the members. FAS also provides
beginners' information packets, and new member information about
the society. FAS members can also receive discount subscriptions
to several astronomy-related magazines.
Field Trips - FAS members often make field trips to
observatories, planetariums, and other astronomical facilities.
Club Library - FAS has accumulated a large selection of books,
magazines, slides, and videotapes related to astronomy. Materials
are available for members to check out.
Club Instruments - FAS maintains a roster of telescopes which
members are able to borrow for their own use.
Telescope Making - FAS offers periodic classes on mirror-grinding
and other elements of telescope making to assist members in
building their own instruments.
